Idaho Man Sentenced to Prison for MDMA Trafficking Scheme

An Idaho man was sentenced to federal prison for distributing MDMA and Ketamine purchased on the darkweb.

The investigation that led to the sentencing of Kevin Marc Crotteau, 25, of Boise, Idaho, according to court records, began after U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers intercepted multiple incoming drug packages addressed to one of Crotteau’s co-conspirators.

The CBP officers intercepted several suspicious packages addressed to Crotteau’s co-conspirator, Brandon Paul Bart, 25, of Portland, at four different Portland addresses in July and in August 2018. On August 30, 2018, Bart attempted to collect two of the packages and was subsequently detained by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents and police officers from the Portland Police Bureau (PPB).

Investigators then executed search warrants for the packages and Bart’s residence. They found undisclosed quantities of MDMA and ketamine in the packages. A search of Bart’s residence resulted in the seizure of more than eight kilograms of MDMA and two kilograms of ketamine.

After questioning Bart, investigators learned that the drugs had been imported from a darkweb vendor based in France. Crotteau, they learned, had ordered the drugs and provided the vendor with Bart’s address.

Investigators executed a search warrant at Crotteau’s residence on August 31, 2018. The search resulted in the seizure of a Tesla valued at $136,200. The search also resulted in the discovery of evidence that linked Crotteau to the sale of $108,000 in Bitcoin acquired from drug distribution.

Crotteau’s co-conspirator, Bart was charged with possession with intent to distribute MDMA and Ketamine on June 26, 2019. Bart pleaded guilty to the charges on August 27, 2019, and was sentenced to five years of probation on September 13, 2020.

Crotteau was charged with the same charge on October 3, 2019. He pleaded guilty to the charge on August 4, 2020. On March 22, 2021, Crotteau was sentenced to one year and one day in prison that will be followed by three years of supervised release.
